September 13: Networking and New Board Installation

Please join us as we resume our monthly general meetings and prepare to start the 2017/2018 NAWIC year with complimentary refreshments, networking and the installation of our newly elected officers and board members. To all our new members who have joined over the past several months, this is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with your chapter colleagues and share fresh ideas for our chapter events in the upcoming year.

July 26: Thirsty Bear Brewing Tour and Tasting - TOUR FULL; WALK-INS FOR NETWORKING AND TAPAS WELCOME

We have disabled the registration link because the Tour is full.  If you would like to participate in the networking and tapas portion of the evening, please walk-in and we will register you at the door.

 

Thirsty Bear is a San Francisco craft brewery making organic, German influenced pilsners, IPAs, stouts, ales, session beers, and barrel aged beers.  We will take a tour of the brewery with its brewers, followed by a hosted beer tasting and light Spanish tapas meal.  No host bar following the tasting.  Space is limited to 24 people, so make sure to sign up in advance!  We look forward to spending an afternoon learning about beer and a local business and socializing with you!

 

Time: 4:30-6:00 p.m.: Tour, tasting, and light tapas.  6:00 p.m. onward: No-host networking.

June 14: Models for Collaborative Partnering; Chapter Elections

Sue Dyer, President of OrgMetrics, will be joining us with a presentation of her models for Collaborative Partnering™, which are yielding cost savings of 10-30%, improving safety and quality, and helping thousands of project teams achieve projects that are more fun and successful.  Come learn about the increasing role of women in the collaborative partnering process, and how to strcture your team to come together to resolve project issues.

We will also be holding our chapter's Board elections for 2017/2018, and for AM&EC delegates.

Monarch Bay Golf Lesson & Play - May 10, 2017

Come join us at the Monarch Bay Golf Course for a lesson with a golf pro and then get out on the course to play up to nine holes.  Beginning promptly at 5 pm, Coach Rick Laforet will go work with us for an hour to learn the basics of setup and swinging.  Then we'll head out to the Executive Course to play up to nine holes.  This is a no-pressure golf lesson and play, and this event is designed for both beginners and experienced golfers. 

We will meet on the upper level of the driving range.  Carts will be provided and sampler set of clubs for those needing equipment.

Transbay Transit Center Tour: April 12, 2017

Please join us for this fantastic opportunity to take a jobwalk of the Transbay Transit Center, which will be hosted by Webcor Obayashi Joint Venture. On this tour you will get a unique opportunity to see history in the making on a project that is transforming downtown SF and creating a "Grand Central Station of the West." The event will start with a presentation on the project and a 1-hr. job site tour.  On the walking tour, please be aware the project is 4 blocks long and will require a great deal of walking and climbing stairs may be required.

Standard Safety Requirements will be enforced - boots required.  All other PPE items will be available at the site for those who need them. 

Time:  4:30 pm start - please arrive on time.

Location: WOJV Jobsite Trailer Complex on Beale, South of Mission.  Enter the gate in the green fence identified as general access/visitor entrance. Go to conference trailer with lettered doors.

Cost:  $10 Members, $20 Non-Members

March 8, 2017: Annual WIC Week Event

For WIC week, we will have a presentation on the fine art of negotiation by a panel of presenters with years of experience.  Join in the lively conversation and negotiation excercises, take home notes on tips and guidelines to improve your negotiation skills.  

There will also be three raffle drawings for NAWIC Members to receive a complimentary registration ($395 value) to the ENR GWIC conference in San Francisco on May 2-3, 2017.

February 8 - Construction Technologies with Brick & Mortar

November 9 - War Memorial Veterans Building Modernization

Taryn Williams, a structural engineer with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, will be joining us to discuss the rehabilitation of the historic War Memorial Veterans Building, completed in Fall 2015.  The presentation will focus on the building envelope rehabilitation work, including the limitations of repairing historic windows, replacing leaking skylights, and the challenges of installing new materials in an existing structure while working with a limited budget.
