Transbay Transit Center Tour: April 12, 2017

Please join us for this fantastic opportunity to take a jobwalk of the Transbay Transit Center, which will be hosted by Webcor Obayashi Joint Venture. On this tour you will get a unique opportunity to see history in the making on a project that is transforming downtown SF and creating a "Grand Central Station of the West." The event will start with a presentation on the project and a 1-hr. job site tour.  On the walking tour, please be aware the project is 4 blocks long and will require a great deal of walking and climbing stairs may be required.

Standard Safety Requirements will be enforced - boots required.  All other PPE items will be available at the site for those who need them. 

Time:  4:30 pm start - please arrive on time.

Location: WOJV Jobsite Trailer Complex on Beale, South of Mission.  Enter the gate in the green fence identified as general access/visitor entrance. Go to conference trailer with lettered doors.

Cost:  $10 Members, $20 Non-Members

March 8, 2017: Annual WIC Week Event

For WIC week, we will have a presentation on the fine art of negotiation by a panel of presenters with years of experience.  Join in the lively conversation and negotiation excercises, take home notes on tips and guidelines to improve your negotiation skills.  

There will also be three raffle drawings for NAWIC Members to receive a complimentary registration ($395 value) to the ENR GWIC conference in San Francisco on May 2-3, 2017.

February 8 - Construction Technologies with Brick & Mortar

Join us to learn more about Construction technologies in construction, from extreme to practical, and other innovative trends in our industry.  Curtis Rodgers will talk about the jobsite of the future and the start-up portfolio that his company supports for construction and design technology.  They are sponsors of a $2M, 3D printing competition with NASA where companies are going to build 3D habitable structures for use in space.  Join us to learn more about robotic excavations, exoskeletons for demo work and drilling, virtual reality, 3D printing and more, with Curtis

November 9 - War Memorial Veterans Building Modernization

Taryn Williams, a structural engineer with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, will be joining us to discuss the rehabilitation of the historic War Memorial Veterans Building, completed in Fall 2015.  The presentation will focus on the building envelope rehabilitation work, including the limitations of repairing historic windows, replacing leaking skylights, and the challenges of installing new materials in an existing structure while working with a limited budget.

October 12 - Project Tour: Salesforce Tower

Please join us for this fantastic opportunity to take a jobwalk of the Salesforce Tower, which will be provided by Consolidated Engineering Laboratories, the special inspection agency. Salesforce Tower is a 1.4 million sq-ft, 61-story tower, which will be one of the tallest buildings west of the Mississippi when it is completed in 2017.

Standard Safety Requirements will be enforced - Boots required.  All other PPE items will be available at the site for those who need them. 

Time:  4:30 pm start - please arrive on time.

JULY 13 - SUMMER EVENT DOGPATCH WALKING TOUR

We will be taking a walking tour of Dogpatch, a SF historic district which has undergone a transformation.  Experience the incredible revival of Dogpatch, from its beginnings as a working class industrial neighborhood, to the center of San Francisco’s maker movement where many artisanal products are handcrafted locally.

We will have a progressive meal while going to the renovated spaces in Dogpatch, stopping in several food and beverage establishments for bites and drink.  There will be food-related tasting of vegetarian pizza, chocolate, cheese, BBQ with vegetarian sides, beer and wine.

Time:  5:00-8:00 p.m.

Location:  We will meet at Triple Voodoo Brewery, 2245 3rd St., SF (b/w 19th & 20th St.)

JUNE 8th - Sit-Down Dinner, 2016/2017 Planning Meeting, Elections

The goal of our June meeting is to plan out our events for the next year and we need your participation to help us determine the best place to focus our efforts to provide the education topics and activities of interest to you.  If you have an interest in becoming more active in the organization, there are many opportunities, both small and large, whether you have only a samll portion of time to give outside of the meetings, or more, including becoming a member of the Board. 

June's meeting will be held at Darn Good Food, with networking, a sit-down dinner, and a focus on making plans for the Chapter's 2016/2017 year.  Members will also vote for the 2016/2017 Board and Delegates for AMEC.

Time:  Networking will begin at 6:00PM; Appetizers will be served at 6:30PM, Dinner at 7:00PM. 

Location:  Darn Good Food:  322 Kearny St, SF (A block from typical Meeting locale at Sedgwick's offices). BART and MUNI close, and a couple of options for parking garages.
